PRODUCT INFORMATION

ALL WEATHER VS. WET... WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

LinkLube Wet is a higher viscosity blend of waxes and oils with a higher concentration of waxes and corrosion inhibitors compared to LinkLube All-Weather. The high wax concentration makes LinkLube Wet much quieter and smoother running, whilst also lasting much longer than LinkLube All-Weather on long rides in the wettest conditions.

TEST, TEST AND TEST AGAIN...

Developed over three years, LinkLube Wet has been battered and beaten into shape by some of the world’s best EWS, XC, Road and Cyclocross riders through a process of prototype, test, critique, improve, repeat.

Outside of racing, many test rides were conducted using eBikes, where chains are under extreme levels of torque for long periods of time. If you combine this constant torque with smashing mud and puddles, grinding steep hills, rapid descending - then repeat on loop until the battery dies - you’ve got yourself the perfect chain lube testing ground (who said testing chain lubes was boring!).

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Always fully degrease your drivetrain before applying fresh lube. For best results, use Peaty's Drivetrain Degreaser
  2. Ensure you thoroughly wash your chain with clean water after degreasing (degreaser is designed to eat chain oil after all)
  3. Remove as much water as you can from the chain. For best results, use Peaty's PT17 Biodegradable Maintenance Spray
  4. Give the bottle a good shake
  5. Apply the lube while cycling the chain backwards (eBikes will need to be pedalled forwards in a stand) ensuring every link is adequately covered
  6. Keep cycling the chain for 10 seconds or so to help the lube work its way into your chain
  7. Thoroughly wipe away all excess lube from your chain using a clean cloth

CAUTION
Do not get LinkLube (or any lube for that matter!) on your brakes or brake pads.

FAQS

What type of lubricant is best for bike chains?

The basic requirements for a bicycle chain lubricant is for it to keep your chain quiet and smooth while also lasting a long time and keeping your drivetrain clean as possible. The best type of chain lubricant for a bicycle depends heavily on the weather and conditions you are riding in.

For dry and dusty conditions you need our LinkLube Dry chain lubricant which uses durable waxes for a long lasting smooth drivetrain. It also dries dry to the touch so that dust and dirt won’t stick to the chain.

For mixed and changeable (but not soaking wet) conditions our LinkLube All Weather uses a unique blend of waxes and greases to keep you rolling smooth in a wide variety of riding conditions. For even cleaner, longer-lasting performance try our LinkLube All Weather Premium.

For the wettest, filthiest riding conditions you need a chain lubricant which will not wash away at the first sight of a puddle. Our LinkLube Wet has a heavy dose of waxes and corrosion inhibitors to last even the longest, wettest day in the saddle.

How do you apply lubricant to a bike chain?

  1. Always fully degrease your drivetrain before applying fresh lube. For best results, use Peaty's Drivetrain Degreaser.
  2. Ensure you thoroughly wash your chain with clean water after degreasing (degreaser is designed to eat chain oil after all)
  3. Remove as much water as you can from the chain. For best results, use Peaty's PT17 General Maintenance Spray.
  4. Give the bottle a good shake
  5. Apply the lube while cycling the chain backwards (eBikes will need to be pedalled forwards in a stand) ensuring every link is adequately covered
  6. Keep cycling the chain for 10 seconds or so to help the lube work its way into your chain
  7. Thoroughly wipe away all excess lube from your chain using a clean cloth (excess oil on the outside of the chain will attract dust in dry conditions).

CAUTION
Do not get LinkLube (or any lube for that matter!) on your brakes or brake pads.

Do I need to clean off excess lubricant?

Yes, for All Weather and Wet lubricants, thoroughly wipe away all excess lube from your chain using a clean cloth. Excess oil on the outside of the chain will attract dust in dry conditions.

For dry lubricants you don’t need to wipe away any excess because dry lubricants remain dry to the touch so will not attract dust.

Why do I need to use chain lubricant?

A good chain lubricant will reduce friction between chain and chainrings, improve shifting performance, reduce dirt build-up so make your drivetrain last longer, prevent corrosion, provide smoother, quieter, easier pedalling and either not wash away easily (if wet lubricant) or not attract dust or dirt (if dry lubricant)... In short, yes.

Does the chain lubricant clean my chain?

Our unique two-part All Weather formula penetrates and cleans deep inside your chain, driving out moisture, grit and grime and replacing them with a unique blend of oils and waxes. Yes, you read that correctly! LinkLube All Weather actually cleans your chain as you use it!

When LinkLube All Weather is first applied to a used (but seemingly clean) drivetrain, the chain may go black pretty quick. Uh oh, don’t panic! This is actually the LinkLube All Weather pushing out the grime that has been hiding away inside your rollers. Simply keep degreasing and re-applying and, over a few rides, your chain will eventually run truly clean once again!

Do I need to clean by drivetrain before use?

Yes, we recommend using our Foaming Drivetrain Degreaser to thoroughly clean your chain before application. For new chains with stubborn factory grease we recommend using our XXX Solvent Degreaser.

Can I use this chain lube in dry conditions?

For best results in very dry conditions we recommend Peaty’s LinkLube Dry.

Can I use this chain lube in wet conditions?

YES!

Do I apply lubricant to my cassette?

You don’t need to apply lubricant to your cassette.

Seems To Work

Well if Steve Peat recommends this it must be good, I have tried quite a few different chain lubes over the years and very few live up to claims. To give this a fair chance I followed the instructions and thoroughly degreased my mtb chain in my parts washer then gave it a real good clean, let dry off then oil it with Peaty's lube, which does smell a bit like coffee not that I normally smell oil but as it said that this stuff does have that aroma so I had too.I dripped the oil on every roller until it was well covered let it soak in and wiped of the excess, looking good and sounding good when I wound the the drive chain up and went through the gears. Now this bit I don't like as to test this out it needed a wet ride and I don't do wet rides if I have too, ever since I have had this lube it's been raining, hope that's not a omen, but to test this out I did it, wet, cold fed up and far from home I rode, tried a nice dirt track as well and my chain I have to say did last the course, not all day granted just over an hour that was enough for me, but this lube is as good as the best and I will continue to use it, you get a decent sized bottle as well so should last me a while.

Overall super lubricant, definitely worth a go.

There isn’t much else to say about this bike lubricant aside the fact it does exactly what it’s supposed to and does a good job of it too!I am no bike mechanic but I do know bits about my bike and this lube seems to do a smashing job when I’m out on my downhill tracks. I’m yet to use in heavy downpour as it hasn’t rained much since arriving but I’ve used in muddy conditions and to be quite honest I can still tell its on after hours of smashing around in mud and puddles. I was impressed by the longevity of it for sure! The scent is a lovely one too, definitely one that you don’t mind getting on your hands as normally they stink but this gives off a nice aroma. It isn’t too strong but you can smell it for definite. The bottle is super easy to use and the leakproof lid is definitely a plus as I can have it in my backpack and feel confident that it won’t leak out.

Florida wet season was great using this lube for my Emtb but it does leave a lot of residual dirt accumulation that needs to be cleaned after each ride. Small price to pay for a protected drive train.

Peaty's Kettenfett

As with all peaty stuff, it does the job

Most of the time I use peatys all weather lube, with this coming out for the horrendously wet days - it works.I've been pleased with all the Peaty items I've purchased - valves, sealant, brushes and lube have all been excellent.

Scented Chain Oil

This is a really good chain lube and if you have an expensive bike/a decent set-up you take care off then you're probably used to spending a little more on good chain lube/oil but none the less you're probably paying just slightly more with this one for the branding and the coffee scent! Bit odd to possibly have a scented chain oil/lube but maybe there are more people than I thought who realy don't like the smell of standard chain oil! Either way it;s effective so would recommend on that front and would be a fun gift maybe for a bike enthusiast.

This is very good

I have used many other brands of bike chain lubricant over the years in order to keep my bikes chains in good order and I have to say that this one is very good indeed. I applied as I usually would and in this dreary May did not have to wait for a wet day to try it out as there has barely been a day gone by without the stuff. Honestly cannot fault it and you have to have a sniff - go on! All in all, very decent stuff and one I shall more than likely stick with.

Great stuff

This lube works well and much better for the chain as it's more smooth. It's good for wet rainy ridesThe oil makes the chain more smooth and more quiet which I've noticed. This product works well on the chain.

Smooth Running

I'm not a huge fan of web lubes as they attract so much dirt. However, during the winter they are necessary unless you want to lube on a daily basis. This web lube has a nice consistency; just thick enough to coat the links. The applicator works well. They result is a very smooth and quiet drivetrain. Sadly the chain was pretty black after a long ride, but still running well. I shall be happy to use this throughout the winter.

Dark coffee scented bike lube

The package contains a well designed bottle of wet weather bicycle lubrication for daily commuter bikes as well as MTBs.It is a ? dark coffee scented thick fluid which gives a long lasting support for the bikes chain and great system. The battles design is highly appreciated as it enables easy application of the lubes.Inorder to get the optimum result, we degreased the chain with the solution and applied after drying it properly. The results were amazing and I believe it is worth to try especially in the tiny wet days.As the summer approaching. We are planning to buy the same manufacturers all weather lube and probably preserve the remaining wet lube for later use.

Does the job well

I was not sure what to expect, over the years I have tried many other brands of wet weather chain lubes and most have not performed as well as i would have liked.I got this to use at work on my work bike and my personnel bike, and i could not have chosen a better time with typical British weather we have had over the past few days this was perfect testing conditions. Applying was simple and easy the lube is a nice runny consistency and not a horrid thick stuff I have tried before.Once applied I found it spreed easy around the chain system, this is going to help reduce the friction and I hope wear and tear. The tube is meant to smell like Irish coffee I can’t comment on that as well hayfever is stopping me smell but lets be honest I don’t really care what it smells like if it does the job.At £11.99 (at time of review) its well worth it, more so in our normal British weather

Quite thick. Gives good results

They talk about it being a wet lube but my issue when I used it was the clay dust from off road riding. It can clog up gears making changes clunky. It is thicker than the other wet lube that I have. It was easy to apply and have very smooth results. Even when the bike came back covered in dust the performance was still great. The price is what I would expect and definitely worth it

Works well.

Does what it says on the tin, it lubes up the chain well, and keeps it working well during wet weather. The smell is strange, and I don't know why you'd want a bike lubricant to smell like coffee but ok.

Biodegradable! Don't bother with the faff of wax, get this.

Don't bother with the faff of wax, get this! And definitely don't use PTFE, which is about as bad as you can get for the environment. This works well and is biodegradable.

First class product

This is a range of MT world championship Steve Peat, commonly known as Peatythid is designed for wet weather conditions. Although not many people go out biking in the rain, loving in Britain, you can't always avoid it. Thus it's handy for winter if you get caught out in it. I cleaned the chain & applied it. I went out in muddy rainy park & I'm very impressed as nothing stuck to my chain & it does exactly what it says.It is a bit more expensive than others, but it's good value for money as it's a high end product & lasts. If you have an expensive bike & are going to muddy terrains a lot, it's well worth paying a but more for this one as you're getting the top of the range.🚲smells like Irish coffee🚲runny liquid consistency (thus easy to apply)🚲works as it should🚲high quality🚲Long lasting

Works very well

This wet weather lube seriously does smell like coffee. It comes in a good sized bottle, and a little goes a long way, Ill probably be using this bottle for some time. I tested this out in the rain, and it really does keep the chain well oiled and in the long run, will keep my chain on good condition. It works very well, I would recommend.

Smells nice, keeps it smooth

Very pleased with this lube. The thin consistency makes it easy to apply preferably after thoroughly cleaning your chain and you’re good to go. My chain is running as smooth as ever and this stuff should help me though this typical British summer.

Improved gear changes

This stuff is superb..The special container has this precision cap that enables the lubricant to go exactly where you want it to.And the product does exactly what it say it will. I've been using this on my bicycle and have found the gear action noticeably improved so that there's far less time required to change gear, along with the uniformity bod coverage of lubricant on the chain.I've been trying this also on some very small lock mechanisms which normally are hard to oil as I saw how easily this coated the chain. This product is superb.

Great for rainy weather.

This works best for rainy weather and since it has been raining a lot for the past few weeks in my area, this worked a charm. It is very easy to apply as it is runny and has helped keep my bike going strong over this rainy weather. I use my bike daily to get to work so having a good product to keep it going even when it's damp is a must. This has definitely helped protect it and it has run smoothly. Recommended.

Does the job

My whole family had bike wash day few weeks back. We followed the instructions of giving the chain good wash, degrease and drying up. And then loading it with this lubricant (later removing the excess). The lube has easy flow, making it easier to apply. One cycle (pun intended) of the chain around the wheel does the trick.I have not gone into muddy terrain afterwards but rides are smooth. Giving it 4 stars based on ease of application.

J

Quite alright

It is quite expensive, but, then, I am a mum who got this fir her child's bike since it does screech sometimes. We applied it once, it smelled better than most of them awfully strong things I have witnessed people apply to their bikes. Quality-wise it seems to work just fine. We have not had much noise through the wet weather afterwards (but we did apply it very generously, all over). It is not something you'd be using for a child's bike on daily basis if you are in a flat as it will get onto things. But, heyho, everything comes at a cost and has to be thought-through.

Great lube

This is a great wet weather lube. The weather this last month has been horrendous, and I've had this on test on my commuter bike. Daily rides for about 45 mins though traffic and rain, and it's stayed on and stayed lubed. It has quite a runny consistency, which makes it easy to apply - no gloopy pastes that don't penetrate here. This goes on easily and you can be sure that it's working its way into all the rollers. The lube genuinely smells of irish coffee, which is weird. I'm not sure encouraging customers to inhale petrochemicals is a great idea, but I'll assume its a happy accident. This lube doesn't seem to attract much in the way of dirt like some wet lubes. I usually only use dry weather lubes for this reason, as wet lubes seem to leave your chain under millimetres of goop after a few rides. This stuff doesn't seem to do that, leaving your chain (and trousers) pretty clean.I really like this stuff. My commuter bike is used hard and I like it to be as maintenace free as possible. This lube is so long lasting I'm quite confident that this little bottle will last me a year at least, so despite the high-ish initial price its actually quite good value.Good stuff, like it.(If you found this review useful, I'd love it if you let me know with a click below - thanks!)
