With traditional saddle assembly, there’s no practical way to get into the rail assembly and fix the cause. So a creak can end up meaning a new saddle, even when there’s nothing else wrong with the one you’ve got.

Every material has a job to do.
The Monarch Saddle combines supportive Throne Foam, a flex-tuned reinforced nylon base, a seamless PU cover and reinforced shoulders. Each material is chosen to support the rider, allow controlled flex or keep the saddle in use for longer.

Service it, don’t bin it.
The removable rail assembly gives you access to the areas of the saddle that can collect grit and start creaking. Cleaning and lightly re-greasing those contact points helps keep the Monarch Saddle running quietly and riding for longer.
Home servicing does not affect the warranty when the servicing instructions are followed. Correct threadlocker and torque settings are required.

01 Before you buy Check your saddle fit
Measure before you buy
Find your sit-bone width in a couple of minutes.
Your sit bones are the two bony points at the base of your pelvis that support your weight on the saddle. Because everyone’s sit-bone spacing is different, measuring yours gives you a much better indication of whether the 145mm Monarch Saddle is right for you.

Prepare a firm surface
A Peaty's Toolbox is ideal, but any hard raised surface will do. Fold a small towel into four layers to create a rough square, keeping the top flat and smooth.

Add the foil
Lay a sheet of kitchen foil over the towel. Make sure it is wider than your seated position.
- 03
Sit in your riding position
Sit squarely with your full body weight on the foil. Lean forwards slightly into the position you ride in and avoid shuffling from side to side.

Hold still for 10 seconds
Sit still long enough for your sit bones to leave two clear impressions, then stand up carefully.
- 05
Mark the centres
Find the two dimples and mark the centre of each. If they are not clear, fold the towel only twice and repeat the test.

Measure centre to centre
Measure the distance between the two marks in millimetres. This is your sit-bone width.
Sit-bone spacing changes with posture, so leaning into your normal riding position gives a more useful reading than sitting upright.

02 Setup Fit and dial in your Monarch Saddle

Start with a solid baseline: Saddle height, tilt and forward / backward (fore-and-aft) position all interact. First set a clean, repeatable starting position before using the symptom guide below.

Saddle prep & fit- 01
Prep the clamp
Make sure the seatpost clamp head and its channels are clean and free from debris. Peaty's Disc Brake Cleaner and a Bamboo Cloth are ideal for this.

Fit the saddle
Follow the seatpost manufacturer's fitting instructions and make sure the clamp sits fully within the chequered markings on the rails.
- 03
Set a starting tilt
Start with the saddle rails parallel to the ground so the saddle is level.
- 04
Set the saddle height
Get the height roughly right before changing fore-and-aft position or tilt.
- 05
Tighten correctly
Use a torque wrench and tighten the clamp to the seatpost manufacturer's figure. Under-tightening allows movement; over-tightening can damage the rails or post.

Mark your baseline
Note the fore-and-aft position against the chequered rail pattern so you can return to the starting setup.
- 07
Test ride and fine-tune
Adjust one setting at a time, then re-check the clamp torque and position after the first ride or two.
Move only a few millimetres at a time or change the tilt by 1–2°. Bigger jumps make it harder to tell what is working.
Fore-and-aft changes your position over the pedals and reach. Tilt changes pressure and where you slide.

03 Aftercare Service your Monarch Saddle

Built to be maintained: The removable rail assembly gives you access to the areas of the saddle that can collect grit and start creaking. Work through the sequence below, use Loctite 243 and tighten both fasteners to the stated torque.

Servicing guide
Service your Monarch Saddle- 01
Remove the nose cap
Leave the saddle on the bike and fully extend the dropper post. Remove the 2mm cap screw, then slide the nose cap backwards to unhook it from the rails.

Remove the rail bolt
Remove the 3mm rail bolt and flat-faced washer.
Tip: The upturned nose cap makes a useful tray for the screw, bolt and washer. - 03
Release the rails from the nose
Pull the nose of the saddle topper firmly upwards to pop the front of the rail out of the saddle nose.

Release the rails from the rear
Pull the open rail ends out of the rear saddle lugs.

Remove the rails
Mark the seatpost clamp and chequered rail position so you can restore the same fore-and-aft and tilt settings, then remove the rails from the clamp.

Clean and lightly re-grease
Clean the rails and lugs with Peaty's Disc Brake Cleaner and a Bamboo Cloth. Apply a light layer of Bicycle Assembly Grease to the rail contact points and lug interfaces.

Refit the rails into the base
Push the open rail ends back into the rear lugs as far as they will go.
- 08
Pop the rail back into the nose
Place the nose of the rail on a stable, flat surface. Support the saddle and press firmly on top with your palm until the rail pops back into place.

Apply threadlocker
Clean the 3mm rail-bolt threads with Disc Brake Cleaner, allow them to dry and apply Loctite 243.
- 10
Refit the rail bolt
Refit the 3mm rail bolt and flat-faced washer, making sure the flat face is correctly orientated. Tighten the rail bolt to 1.5Nm.

Refit the nose cap
Refit the nose cap and 2mm cap screw. Tighten the cap screw to 0.5Nm.

Refit your saddle
Return it to the position you marked earlier, tighten the seatpost clamp to the manufacturer's specified torque, then go ride your bike.

Do I need an eBike-specific saddle for an eMTB?
Short answer? Nope.
The Monarch Saddle was designed to be the best saddle we could make, full stop. It was tested and developed on both eMTBs and regular mountain bikes, and works just as well on either.
We don’t believe in sticking an eBike badge on a product, giving it a fancy new name and charging more when nothing meaningful has changed. The Monarch is simply a really good saddle, designed to perform properly whether there’s a motor on your bike or not.
It has been tested to ASTM Level 4 for MTB and eMTB by the Zedler Institute.
No unnecessary eBike version. Just a saddle that’s been developed and tested to do the job.
What sit-bone width is the 145mm Monarch Saddle suitable for?
A sit-bone measurement up to 130mm sits within the Monarch Saddle’s ideal support range. Measurements from 130–145mm are borderline and become more dependent on riding posture and personal preference. If your measurement is above 145mm, you’ll be better suited to a wider saddle. Use the measuring guide above before buying.
Does the Monarch Saddle fit a standard seatpost?
Both Monarch Saddle versions use standard 7mm round rails and fit seatposts designed to clamp that rail profile. Follow the seatpost manufacturer's fitting instructions and make sure the clamp sits fully within the chequered markings on the rails.
